Who Is Wally?
Wallace Keller Thomas, Jr. is a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, sailor, veteran, patriot, role-model, painter, handyman, friend, neighbor, victor, survivor, and more.
Wally is as "old school" as they come: growing up during Prohibition and the Depression, he lied about his age to join the Navy early, more than a year before Pearl Harbor. He then served as a Gunner's Mate (First Class) on "tin cans" in both WWII and Korea, fighting for America and freedom. He then raised a Baby-Boom generation family, and later a Generation X family.
He worked hard, lived hard, loved hard, won hard, and lost hard. He never met a person he didn't call "friend", but he can be one hell of an enemy. Selfless but stubborn, Wally shows his love with actions, not mere talk. Although most frequently a man of few words, he is quick with a smile and a joke whenever the situation calls for it. And usually, those situations also call for Budweiser and The Glenlivet...
You always know where you stand with Wally: generally because he built the floor underneath you. We are who we are, and we are where we are, because of real men like Wally Thomas -- the finest of "the greatest generation".
